The project I was working on at office faced some delays due to various factors. The entire team was working hard and still we were not progressing at a pace that we expected to. This created a lot of anxiety.
I was almost on the verge of praying for success. Then it struck me that special prayer is against Sannyaasa. I woke up to the reality and became free from all anxiety.
Here is what I could put together from two points of view.
As long as I do whatever that has to be done, there is nothing more that can be done. The result depends on so many factors and is not in my hands. Anxiety does not improve the situation. What I need to think is “What can I do differently or with more quantity, that is likely to make things better?” Beyond that, there is no point in worrying about the success or failure.
This is the Lord’s world. It is His project. I have been given an opportunity to contribute to the project. With me or without me, if He wishes so, it will be a success. If He wishes so, it will be a failure. I have no responsibility or authority over the success and failure. My job ends with wholehearted maximum contribution. Who am I to worry about success or failure? I am not the one running this world.
The beautiful talk by Swami Paramarthanandaji on “What is Sannyaasa?” defines Sannayaasa as “Giving up all claims of ownership and controllership of all objects, people and situations”. Anxiety and special prayer are marks of lack of Sannyaasa.
Thanks to the words of the great Guru, I am back on the track and free from all anxiety.
